‘BE THERE’ PARENT CAMPAIGN TO ENCOURAGE PARENT, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT FOR MCS STUDENTS Muncie – “Be There,” a research-based, multimedia campaign endorsed by the American Association of School Administrators that encourages the everyday connection of parents with their children, was approved by the Muncie Community Schools Board of School Trustees Tuesday. In a recommendation to the Board, Dr. Eric A. King, superintendent, shared that the “Be There” campaign inspires adults to connect with their children by relating to them during routine moments in their daily schedule. The concept was introduced to and embraced by a cross-section of our school community at an education forum February 3 at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. At that forum, a short video presented by Christy Luellen, director of communications, featured the campaign’s organizer David R. Voss who said parents can make ordinary moments extraordinary by relating to their children during the daily routines of life – in the car, in the kitchen, and by turning off electronic devices – to talk to their child. Dr. King shared that the marketing campaign will involve little or no cost to the school corporation by establishing partnerships with agencies and businesses within the community to share in the cost for printing, duplication, and promotion of the campaign. February 25, MCS learned that The Ball Brothers Foundation has approved a grant of $5,000 for the parental involvement and student success campaign. |
