With a couple of pre-schoolers in the car, I keep the car games simple. We count how many green lights Daddy can make without stopping for a red light. We happen to live along a street that tries to synchronize lights, so sometimes our consecutive streak reaches double figures.

Much to my surprise, during a recent holiday dinner discussion some 20 years later, my two college kids said, "Dad, one thing I'll never forget about our childhood counting those stop lights on the way to pre-school! That was fun."

You just never know what they'll remember.
